The blue iron gates of Waterford Distillery, a cask on each stone pillar

About Us · Who we are

Custodians of a city's story

We make Waterford Irish Whiskey on Grattan Quay. We see ourselves as the latest custodians of a story the city has been writing for more than eight centuries.

Waterford Distillery

A working distillery on the quay

Waterford Distillery stands on Grattan Quay, on the River Suir, in the city of Waterford in Ireland’s south-east. We distil Waterford Irish Whiskey here, and we welcome visitors to see it made.

We are distillers, guides and neighbours, working in a city that has always made room for people who arrive from elsewhere. What we share is a belief that this whiskey belongs here, and that Waterford deserves a distillery worthy of its name.

Waterford Distillery is part of Waterford Distilling Group Ltd, owned by Tennessee Distilling Group.

Our principle

The city comes first

We don’t tell Waterford’s story to sell whiskey. We tell it because Waterford Irish Whiskey exists only because Waterford does. History before branding. Nature before commerce. The harbour before the warehouse, the barrel before the bottle.

Where history is documented, we give the date. Where it isn’t, we say so.

What we inherited

Seven values from the city

Our values weren’t written in a workshop. Waterford has shown them for centuries; our job is to recognise them and keep them.

  • 01

    Curiosity

The confidence to ask before assuming.

  • 02

    Stewardship

To inherit something remarkable and leave it stronger than it was found.

  • 03

    Exchange

The belief that ideas travel as readily as goods.

  • 04

    Craftsmanship

Reputation is earned slowly and protected carefully.

  • 05

    Patience

Time is not an obstacle to excellence but its greatest companion.

  • 06

    Responsibility

    Trust, once earned, carries obligations.

  • 07

    Openness

Welcome the wider world while remaining unmistakably Waterford.

The whiskey did not create the story. It joined it.
